Age?

On the February 10, 2026 episode of Finding Your Roots it was revealed that Letts is the direct descendant, on his mother's side, of Cherokee Indian William Burgess (born c. 1782 in the Eastern Cherokee Nation), who voluntarily moved to the Indian Territory west of the Mississippi River (modern-day Oklahoma) in 1831, seven years before the removal of the Cherokee during the Trail of Tears. This proved true the family story that his mother had always told (and which Tracy Letts had never believed), of being descended from Cherokee Indians. On the program, it was also explained that (on his father's side) Letts has "extensive" Muscogee (Creek) ancestry, and is the second cousin, four times removed, of Alexander Posey. It was also revealed on the program that he is a distant relative of Julia Roberts, who worked with him on the film version of Letts's August: Osage County.
