Extent of present day Tottenham
[edit]It's interesting that it's not unusual for people to still think of Tottenham in terms of its historical borough boundaries. However, since this article is describing a district of present-day Haringey at the same level as Northumberland Park, Seven Sisters, South Tottenham, Tottenham Hale, West Green, I would argue that the article needs to clarify the geography of the old borough vs. what might today be considered as the district of Tottenham. Currently the description of its boundaries includes the areas just previously listed. For my money, for the purposes of this article, these are distinct districts in their own right and ought not to be included in the present day boundaries of Tottenham. Any thoughts? hjuk (talk) 06:24, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Demography
[edit]113 ethnic groups and 193 diffrent langagues (read the study), not 300... The University College London study talk about "most ethnically diverse in Britain" and not of Western Europe (TIME delirium). 85.170.16.25 (talk) 16:58, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Is this correct
[edit]Tottenham has a multicultural population, with many ethnic groups inhabiting the area. It contains one of the largest and most significant populations of African-Caribbean people. These were among the earliest immigrant groups to settle in the area, starting the UK's Windrush era soon after West African communities - notably the many Ghanaians - begun to migrate into the area.
Just wondering if it should have an extra full stop so:

No source to confirm which is correct, but this sounds more likely.Jandrews23jandrews23 (talk) 08:04, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- Agree, it needs a fullstop have added one. Tmol42 (talk) 08:42, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not from London and won't add anything without a reference. There may be a few useful ones in the 2011 London riots
- I note the MV Empire Windrush doesn't reference Tottenham but may have useful material. JRPG (talk) 11:06, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Tottenham's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Feedback
[edit]This is the most viewed London district article (probably because of the 2011 riots). Should be a high priority for some improvement. I've turned feedback on (again). MRSC (talk) 20:44, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
New Church
[edit]It was announced on the news tonight (November 21 2017) that a new church will be opening in Tottenham, a church that will be both a church and a community centre. This could go in the article to up-date the article. Vorbee (talk) 18:28, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
- Assuming you mean St Francis in the Engine Room, that's (a) in Tottenham Hale, not Tottenham; (b) not really a "new church" in the traditional steeple-and-organ sense but just a big room in a student housing block and (c) has already been open for years and all that happened today was a formal ceremony. ‑ Iridescent 23:42, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]Currently, the title Tottenham refers to the London district; however, Tottenham Hotspur F.C. is also a highly notable and internationally significant football club. There is a clear ambiguity. I therefore propose moving Tottenham (disambiguation) to Tottenham and renaming the London district to Tottenham, London, in line with the approach taken for Chelsea. ~2025-40955-80 (talk) 21:40, 15 December 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose, Where is the ambiguity? We don't take this approach to other areas with major football clubs. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 09:13, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Murgatroyd49 The football club is also commonly referred to simply as Tottenham. For example, Chelsea redirects to a disambiguation page rather than to the London district. ~2025-41187-72 (talk) 10:05, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- The club is more commonly known as Spurs. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 12:34, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

- Weak oppose as there are only two topics to disambiguate (the place, and the football club named after it) the hatnote seems sufficient, which is also the approach used on Liverpool, Fulham, Brentford, West Ham etc. I also disagree with "Chelsea" being a disambiguation page, I suppose that's because of the third topic Chelsea (given name) rather than because of the football club being especially notable or significant, but I wouldn't say that's necessary. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 🐱 10:27, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- Support. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. gets 12 times as many page views as Tottenham, and many viewers of the latter were probably looking for the former. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:22, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- Your evidence for that? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 15:53, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Murgatroyd49: I linked the page view evidence and only said "probably" about the last part. It was based on experience with page view spikes in old articles when something with the same name suddenly gets far more views, e.g. . Tottenham Hotspur always gets many views but when they won the 2025 UEFA Europa League final 21 May 2025, the Tottenham views grew by a factor six PrimeHunter (talk) 19:18, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- But that is just a spike. As I said, it's more likely that people search for Spurs than the full name of the club. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 19:37, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- Based on the relative spikes I estimate that 2% of everybody (including those clicking a correct link somewhere and not searching) will hit Tottenham when looking for Spurs. When Spurs normally gets 13 times as many views as Tottenham, this would indicate that 26% (2% of 13) of normal Tottenham views were meant for the club. I guess it's more for those using search. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:07, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose. The English locale has more long-term notability than its eponymous soccer team. 162 etc. (talk) 18:21, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose as recentism and fan-based bias. Tottenham was a place when the primitive ancestor of footie was played with a pig's stomach for a "ball". --Orange Mike | Talk 22:52, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:PT2, the place the club is named after has more long-term significance. Plus the club is still also in London. DankJae 23:29, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
