Austronesian vocabulary in Western TSI language?

[edit]

I'm curious about the claim that the western-central language of the TSI (the one which is considered an Australian language) has substantial vocabulary from Austronesian languages. I would be very surprised if this were true and would like to see a reference supporting it. Dougg 00:13, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Should this perhaps be moved to Torres Strait Islander languages or Languages of Torres Strait? I'm not sure I like the grammaticality of Torres Strait Island languages, although "Torres Strait Island" as a modifier does seem to be in use. --Ptcamn 18:55, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The construction of the phrase is : [Torres Strait] [Island Languages], not [Torres Strait Island] [Languages]. Roidhrigh 11/1/2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.60.96.48 (talk) 18:07, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
