Specific examples?

It would be great to have some specific examples of use of the various types of torque limiter. For instance, I'm pretty sure the torque limiter in my electric screwdriver is of the ball detent type (because of the sound it makes when limiting), but I'd like to have it confirmed by someone who's taken a screwdriver like this apart and also knows what a ball detent torque limiter looks like... --Alvestrand 20:30, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Spurious patent

The shear pin has been around since time immemorial. I found a citation from 1922 that clearly documents the use of the term in a torque limiting context. Conveniently enough, it also documents the use of ball detents, so I cited it in both sections. But, this citation makes nonsense of the claim that shear pins were invented in the 1970s. This claim cites a design patent (by definition, not a claim of invention) and therefore, this is spurious. Therefore, I am tagging it as disputed. Douglas W.
