Tora Liman is the used name for the max security prison. However, "liman" is not an Arabic word, nor it's English, French or Ottoman indicating a meaning of prison or jail.

Per Google Translate, liman in Turkish means port or harbor, so there might be something there (as the complex is located on the Nile).

I've asked many Egyptians on the meaning of liman or where it came from, and no one seemed to know.

It can be useful & encyclopedic to include something about the origins of the names of the prisons (for example, "Scorpion prison"). ¬Hexafluoride (talk) 10:11, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
