Misleading impression about controversy around improper appointment to Trinity
[edit]The text below is very misleading as to the nature and cause of the controversy surrounding the unlawful appointment by Trinity to that professorship:
"In March 2022, he announced his intention to step down as Chief Medical Officer, after being appointed as Professor of Public Health Strategy and Leadership at Trinity College Dublin. This caused several days of controversy, and as a result, Holohan announced his retirement as CMO on 1 July and would not take up his planned academic position at TCD."
This misrepresents the cause of the controversy as his decision to step down from the job. Whereas it was the fact of the improper use of public money in appointing him to a job which would not have been available to anyone else. Trinity cannot use public money to appoint and pay and employee in any manner it chooses with no regard to public expenditure rules. That was the source of the controversy, not his decision to step down. This is a very significant distortion of events in the article text, caused both by omission and misdirection.
There was government intervention by Taoiseach Michael Martin and other cabinet ministers who examined the 'flawed process' of appointing Holohan.
