 | PLEASE NOTE: If you have come here to discuss the spelling of 'TIRE' versus 'TYRE' in this article: Please read the following statement before commenting: We have had a long (and often acrimonious) debate about the naming of this article - followed by consensus voting. The conclusion was that per the Wikipedia Manual of Style, we will follow the rule that when an article is started in one English variant (US English in this case), it should be kept in that variant unless there are overwhelming reasons not to. Historical spelling is not compelling enough to override that decision - and we knew about the historical issues when we visited this question the last time. Unless there is some sort of startling new evidence, we're not likely to be changing the title of the article. Note also that 'Tyre' is a rather important city in Lebanon (and is also the names of US towns in New York and Michigan) - so even if this article could be renamed, it would have to be called "Tyre (mechanical component)" (or something equally ugly) - so you'd STILL have to go through a redirect or disambiguation page to get here. At least this way, 'Tire' isn't a redirect or a dab - so we keep some people happy at the expense of nobody. Sound and Vibration Characteristics?

"Damage" vs "compromise"
[edit]Greglocock, in reviewing the section, "What do tyre particles do to humans?", in the cited article, It suggests that general exposure to the particles released by tire compounds increases risk of adverse affects, but does not create a certain adverse outcome. It says that the dispersal of airborne nanoparticles "puts city-dwellers at significant risk of exposure", which "may particularly affect members of the population who have pre-existing conditions". The article advocates increasing our knowledge on the subject. In view of this, how does "...that contain these chemicals, which enter the environment and elevate risk of damage to human health" sound? Sincerely, HopsonRoad (talk) 02:29, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

All-Weather tires
[edit]I've seen discussion of all-weather, as distinct from all-season, tires. Whether they're indeed distinct, or are a subcategory, or whether this is merely marketing is beyond my expertise, nor do I have sources, but perhaps someone here knows/does? --Badger151 (talk) 19:37, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Use for Boat Fenders

- No I haven't, and has anybody got a reliable source for them being used to weigh tarps down, as used for temporary grain storage in Australia. Or making them into sandals? Or painting them white and using them as driveway markers? Or carving them into swan shaped garden ornaments? Or putting flower pots in them? Greglocock (talk) 22:38, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
