Timeline of Twitter → History of Twitter – Article has very little content and isn't beneficial for an overall understanding of the topic. I intend to convert the content in here to prose once this move has been completed. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:23, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Can we please move this back? Its very clearly a (bad) timeline article in line with other timelines of social networks. I agree Twitter needs a proper history page like Facebook and Youtube, but this really isnt a good base for it, and should be left as is (with some improvements). If you wanna start a draft of an actual prose history article feel free to do so. jonas (talk) 22:29, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Re: We now have extensive articles on Elons Twitter Acquisition as well as individual event like the Thursday Night Massacre. The last month has more and better coverage than the entire previous history of the site, excluding the section in Social media use by Donald Trump. There needs to be a proper prose History of Twitter article, and this list should be moved back to Timeline of Twitter and at most be used as a general outline. --jonas (talk) 12:09, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
- Support - this definitely should be moved to Timeline of Twitter as it is just two tables, and this format follows similar articles like Timeline of Snapchat etc. --ZimZalaBim talk 22:33, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
Splitting out into post-acquisition history of Twitter
[edit source]I created History of Twitter (October 2022-present), but it appears it's been moved to draftspace and won't be moved back unless I make this talk page message. I believe that, assuming this article is turned into prose, much of the content will cover actions taken by Elon Musk following his acquisition of Twitter. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:04, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Proposed split of Twitter
[edit source]There is a proposal to split Twitter. This article is unaffected, but you may still be interested. Please see the discussion at Talk:Twitter § Survey. Thank you. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:15, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus for move to Timeline of X (without disambiguation for the above reasons). (non-admin closure) Jack Frost (talk) 06:51, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
Timeline of Twitter → Timeline of X (social network) – The page for the platform this article refers to has been moved to X (social network). Additionally, I have included the disambiguation text in the proposed new title to prevent confusion with anything else from X (disambiguation) (X Window System comes to mind). UltrasonicMadness (talk) 13:03, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support "Timeline of X" without disambiguation. There is no timeline article for the X window system so there is no need for a disambiguator. OmegaAOLtalk? 03:04, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- Support per OmegaAOL. DankJae 21:03, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

Timeline of X (social network) → Timeline of X – Following up on Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2026_April_12#Timeline_of_X. If the current consensus is that this is the primary topic for "Timeline of X", which is implied by consensus of having it redirect there, then the article should be moved to that basename per WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT, which states in part: a disambiguated article title, such as Apostrophe (punctuation), may be moved to its base name (unqualified title) based on a consensus that this is the primary topic for the unqualified term
. The current situation is WP:MISPLACED. This move would be a return to the consensus found in the February RM discussion above. The only other option would be to retarget Timeline of X to History of X, but none of the other entries there really are a timeline (though other possibilities may exist at X (disambiguation)). It seems that any other possible targets can be dealt with as hatnotes. Mdewman6 (talk) 00:04, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- For example, there is X (American band)#Timeline, but at least based on WP:PT1, the social network timeline would certainly seem to be the primary topic. Mdewman6 (talk) 00:14, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom and primary topic. 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 11:49, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom and per my reply to the linked discussion at RfD. To address the concern that @Mathguy2718 raised in that discussion, there is no reason for why the standard process of adding an {{Incoming links}} tag could not be used in the event that the base title becomes a disambiguation page. –Gluonz talk contribs 15:14, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
