A Twist in the Tale of the Tiger means the section will need a rewrite soon to incorporate this other theory. GraemeLeggett (talk) 15:28, 8 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not an individual designation

[edit]

Shouldn't it be somehow recognizable that "Tiger 131" was not an official designation? As it is now in the text it sounds like this was the name of the tank, and today it probably is, but basically this is based on a misunderstanding. The turret numbers only indicate the organizational position of the vehicle in its company. After that there was one Panzer 131 in each german Panzer company (later in the war there were different numbering systems) . If the vehicle had been assigned to a different platoon, for example, or if the organizational structure of the unit had been changed, or if it had been assigned to a different company after an overhaul, then a different number would simply have been written on it. As I said, this vehicle is now known as the "Tiger 131", but that this was not a unique identification number should be noted somewhere. --WerWil (talk) 15:43, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have clarified this in the article. (Hohum @) 16:11, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
