Water-gate

[edit]

This article might be a good place to mention that the Tidewater Lock, as the place where the C&O enters open water, was also known as a "Water Gate", from which the nearby hotel complex got its name and later a political scandal and even later still a suffix applied to almost any scandal. I don't have a citation for this handy, otherwise I'd just add it to the article myself.
