It'd be nice if someone (more knowledgable than myself) could add some information about the Sarpedon scandal here.

The page on the Euphronios krater is probably the better location for this. Hoving's book "Making the Mummies Dance", which details his personal experiences at the Met, has at least one chapter entirely devoted to this episode, and might be a good jumping-off point (at least for his involvement in the piece's purchase). Why is nothing mentioned about his participation in the 2006 documentary Who the Fuck Is Jackson Pollock? His appearance is probably more memorable than Teri Horton's, the owner of the disputed painting. That's what brought me to this entry, as I suspect it may for others. Yes, he comes of as rather pompous and arrogant in the film, but it does give some balance to this rather short, fawning but mundane entry. Cheers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.61.17.154 (talk) 05:11, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Art for Dummies

[edit]

The glaring omission from Hoving's bibliography is his magnum opus of his later years, Art for Dummies. AfD is playful, light, yet quite informative -- excellent preparation for going to an art museum, or making sense of a visit to one upon your return. Although AfD is mentioned, it gets short shrift in my opinion. http://www.amazon.com/Art-For-Dummies-Thomas-Hoving/dp/0764551043 50.0.36.121 (talk) 22:59, 20 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
