The name "Batts" for this man appears to be a longstanding error. The one ref cited herein which uses it, in the non-https version of the online encyclopedia of West Virginia, actually is entitled "Batte and Hallom Expedition: historically cited incorrectly as Batts and Fallam". The online Encyclopedia Virginia also has an article about this man, written by a VCU history professor who died September, which spells this name as "Batte", as do various older Virginia history books I've seen. Also, the current wikipedia article apparently incorrectly states this man was a burgess, citing a British source I haven't cite-checked. Please note that he does not appear as a burgess in either the Virginia nor West Virginia articles. Plus he doesn't appear in the generally definitive list of burgesses and members of the council of state published by the Library of Virginia in 1978.Jweaver28 (talk) 20:19, 27 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
