Mark vs Mia

[edit]

Every now and then someone comes along and changes Mark to Mia, as if the character was always Mia. I know this reflects political orthodoxy in some circles (and as the supportive parent of a transgender son I have sympathy for this view) but it does not reflect the published text. I think it would be useful to have something on the Talk page about this rather than having rival edits going back and forth with no discussion. You never know, we might even reach a consensus.

The character is listed as "Mark" in both the cast list and every scene except the last one. As portrayed in the play, therefore, the character is Mark, later becoming Mia. This page is about the play and only the play, so it should only reflect what is in the play, not anyone's opinion on the wider issue, however strongly an editor feels. It's not our business to "correct" what the author wrote. Patrick Neylan (talk) 16:04, 14 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
