Where does this article fit in?

The content of this article is a subset of Gravity of Earth#Mathematical models and there is also a lot of overlap in subject matter between this article and gravity anomaly, free-air anomaly and Bouguer anomaly. Also, the title is vague. It could refer to any of the types of gravity anomaly or even General relativity. So my questions are what purpose is this article serving, and what should it be called?

My suggestion: rename this article to something like Reference gravity formula or International gravity formula, consistent with the focus on world gravity models. Put most of the material in Gravity of Earth#Mathematical models here, leaving a more accessible summary in that section. To make this article readable, there needs to be more detail on how the terms in the formulae are derived. RockMagnetist (talk) 05:53, 30 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good - could rename to IGF. Also useful to explain formula based on shape and centripetal force due to rotation and indicate relative size of the 2 effects ? shows effect of rotation. - Rod57 (talk) 10:20, 8 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Meaning of the sin2 coefficient

the latitude is denoted by either phi and psi. this is disturbing because one may wonder on the difference between geographical and geocentric latitude. I feel useful to state in the incipit that the latitude is the geographical one in the whole article 176.206.0.5 (talk) 18:33, 14 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
