While I think there's definitely potential for an article on the topic of The Simpsons reportedly predicting the future - clearly, it comes up a lot in cultural discussion, and probably passes the general notability guideline - this article needs some work.

Right now, it appears to be a compilation of listicles from various entertainment blogs, some of which have questionable reliability. This article would benefit from an encyclopedic overview describing the phenomenon in general, and its impact on the culture, rather than just providing a list of examples.

We should also be aware that claims that a particular event was predicted by a particular episode are opinions, and should be presented as such. BluestGreen (talk) 00:05, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

While considering something a prediction or not could be an opinion, some of those reported here are just factually wrong. For example, here it is stated that the Simpson (reportedly) predicted the Higgs Boson discovery, when the episode simply reports its mass, something that had been already theorized by Higgs in 1964. While I agree with above that this topic meets WP:GNG from years of discussion, this page is presented too much as if these were actual predictions like those that Nostradamus made. A lot of sources are of low quality, and really stretching to make up the numbers, get the clicks.

Take the Collider list that says that Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy predicted Trump's arrest. This is presentism if I've ever seen it. Kent Brockman just says "the president was arrested". When Trump was arrested in 2023, the only people still referring to him as "the president" were election deniers. This is like saying that "the president died today" on the news refers to ex-presidents. No.

The same source paragraph then says "the episode not only predicted the craze of Barbie". Right, so this author thinks that the Barbie doll was launched after 1994, rather than the episode being a parody of Barbie. A great cultural and historical scholar here.

We have to remember that there is a cottage industry in stretching Simpsons predictions, or just making them up, period, to get clicks. Unknown Temptation (talk) 20:30, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
