Novel?

[edit]

The Wikipedia article on Eric Ambler says this movie is based on his original screenplay, not his novel. It does not list any novel with the title (or alternative title) of The October Man. Perhaps the statement in this article that it was based on a novel was picked up from the TCM article that's cited in the footnotes. --96.235.189.81 (talk) 14:41, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

IMDb and AMG also credit Ambler's (unnamed) novel, as does Film4 and Dennis Schwartz / Ozus' World. I'm not familiar with Ambler's works, but the novel doesn't have to be named The October Man. Clarityfiend (talk) 18:48, 1 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
This is discussed at Talk:Eric Ambler, where the wait of (scanty) evidence leads to the conclusion that the film is not based on any published novel by Ambler but is instead an original screenplay by him. (I haven't read Ambler's memoir, but someone over there who has states that the memoir refers to the film as an original screenplay.) I'm editing the article accordingly.
