So, who copied who?

[edit]

I'm going to post this on both pages...

I recently watched an episode of The Letdown on Netflix. The show is essentially identical to Workin' Moms on CBC in Canada. What do I mean by "essentially identical"? Well...

  • the show involves a group of "core" moms dealing with modern baby raising, with a set of recurring secondary characters
  • a major recurring scene is a support group where they all meet about once an episode
  • the group is a major source of stress because everyone else (except the core) is seeming perfect
  • the main character spends most of her time trying to figure out if baby raising has made them [dumber|boring|tired|etc]
  • they even look the same, compare this and this

I find it difficult to believe that these two shows appeared at basically the same time from the opposite side of the planet - that's a little to zeitgeisty even for me. Yet I can't find anything in the usual areas that mention a link. Does anyone have anything on this?
