Plot Introduction rewrite
[edit]The old Plot Introduction contained many errors about the events of the book. It is explicitly stated in the text that most of the immortals in the Group with historical names are not the real people, but have a superficial similarity. For example, “Herb Wells” is an immortal who has a working time machine, so he is nicknamed after H.G. Wells, the science fiction author. Jaycee is an exception, being Jesus Christ, who became immortal from dying on the cross. Ned Curzon was made immortal by the explosion of Krakatoa, so he is not the 20th century British peer.
Guess is not immortal when he appears, he becomes immortal as a result of events involving the Group.
The Group had no great interest in, or involvement with, the Extro computer before it links with Guess.
I have almost entirely rewritten the Plot Introduction. If it still reads as incoherent and confusing, that is because the book's plot is incoherent and confusing, as noted in the “Reception” section.
