Colours Matches in Other Sports
Colours Matches are not always in Rugby, UCD vs Trinity in any stand alone match is referred to as a Colours match. I feel the article needs to be edited to reflect this. Rugby may have the best kept records, but Rowing, GAA, Water Polo & almost every sports club that exists in both universities has a Colours Match Annually. Swimming & Water Polo is my area of involvement, but I know the Boat (Rowing) Clubs have had Colours Matches on the Liffey for years. Thedecline (talk) 00:57, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

'The Colours Match' is the title given to the rugby match between UCD and Trinity as this was the first colours, the correct parlance for the approved contests between UCD and and the next best team in whatever sport is called 'colours'. My understanding is that the swimming and water polo 'colours' is the 'colours meet', rowing is The Gannon Cup which is the boat club 'colours'. You should also be aware that you've got to apply to the AUC for university colours. You should have a look at 'St.Patrick's Blue and Saffron' by Paddy Meenan, its in the library.
