Unsourced Yankee boosterism

[edit]

I've removed some ten-year-old claims that virtually all the settlers in 1875 were Yankees from New England. The sources cited don't support the claim, and the 1880 census actually refutes it. According to H.O. Ruesch in his Taylor County Historical Sketch, here are the first four settlers:

Settler Birthplace from 1880 census When settled
E.L. UrquhartCanadaCruised timber and settled near Medford in 1870.
A.E. HarderCan't find him in censusFirst permanent settler, in Medford 1872.
Pat MullaloyIrelandSettled 1873
C.W. NortonCan't find him in censusSettled 1873

So of the two first settlers I can find, zero were Yankees. That's far from "virtually all." If someone has a source that supports "virtually all," please provide it and consider restoring what I deleted. -- Jeff the quiet (talk) 04:59, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
