Parenthesis around Selys, 1871 - or not?

[edit]

Following World Odonata List I removed parenthesis around the authority for this species. This is now re-instated.

Question: Should we use, or not use, parenthesis in this case?

In his original description, Selys gave this dragonfly the name: Cordulia (Hemicordulia) tau - (actually, Cordulia (Hermicordulia) tau, but I think that may be a misprint). Selys named Hemicordulia as a subgenus of Cordulia.

How do we represent this on Wikipedia? John Tann (talk) 02:12, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Given that Hemicordulia was originally a subgenus only, the original binomial that Selys, 1871 coined was Cordulia tau', the removal of the parenthesis is an error by WOL.--Kevmin § 23:58, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
