Tartrate is also used in a medicine to affect blood pressure and other heart irregularities such as premature ventricicle(sp?) contractions. (METOPROLOL TARTRATE)

Minor bug

Hey I noticed when one Googles "Tartrate" the small description box that is produced by the search engine says "formula: C₂H₄O₆₂-". I think the charge somehow got messed up in the formatting and if there is anybody who is a Wiki formatting genius could u do that for the community. IDK how to and it bothers me. TY

“Harmless”

In terms of "harmless," as the crystals on the wine cork were said to be- potentially it's prudent to avoid saying something is "harmless" at least without defining the context better- to canines the crystals (reference: article on tartaric acid) might indeed be potentially harmful. Tartrate salts (ibid) were also used by Biot and Pasteur to help resolve (heh) the issue of chirality (which might actually be more meaningful in the context of tartrate as a dianion than tartaric acid).
