Conflict of Interest: Dance License or Dancing license

[edit]

Nature
While making some additions to the page, I have found a conflict of interest regarding the translation of the song title. While "Tanz" means dance and "Schein" in this case means license, I do think that Dancing license would make more sense. As the title seems to be based on the word "Führerschein" (Driving/Drivers License) so Dancing License should maintain the original meaning while being easier to pronounce.

For now
While this is being discussed, I would like to keep every instance of the translated title as "Dance(-ing) License" until a decision has been made.

About the discussion
In the discussion, everyones opinion regarding this matter may be brought in. I would like to have a decision in three days, altough the deadline might be extended depending on the volume of opinions.

I would like your ideas on this.

@EvenLeoEme you've used the conflict of interest edit request template, but haven't said why you think you have a conflict of interest with this article? See WP:COI for more information. If you simply want to discuss the proposed change with other editors, the COI template isn't necessary. DrThneed (talk) 03:50, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
@DrThneed I would see it as COI as I am unsure which one is the correct translation. The conflict in question is that dancing sound better, but dance might be the correct translation. EvenLeoEme (talk) 07:45, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's not a conflict of interest as defined in WP:COI. The COI edit request template you have used is for editors who are not allowed to edit a particular article, because they have a conflict of interest (e.g. they want to cite work they wrote, or they are the subject of the article), to request another editor make an edit on their behalf. Not being certain of a translation is not a COI. I'm going to close this request. If you want to discuss the translation issue with other editors, then you might like to try posting on the talk pages of any of the three WikiProjects listed at the top of this talk page. @EvenLeoEme: Thanks for bringing this up. As both interpretations are viable, I see no problem with "Dance(-ing) License." Feel free to check out the article on conflict of interest as the conflict is just editorial. HKLionel TALK 11:18, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
