I have slightly altered the current text, which previously translated the Georgian forms მეუფე meupe and მეფე mepe as 'king', which is not accurate. In Georgian, these words carry no semantic connotation of gender, as they can apply to either a male or female monarch, as the text explains. The most precise and correct translations into English of these words is not 'king' or 'queen', which in English necessarily imply the gender of the ruler, but 'monarch' or 'sovereign'. Historiographically her status has always been translated into English as 'Queen Tamar' because she was a queen regnant, and there is no reason to change this due to a misunderstanding of translation. I thought the Trebizond expedition would have begun in the Reign of Alexios III, just before Alexios IV and slightly more before the Latin occupation of Constantinople etc.?
