[edit]Taleqan (also spelled Taleghan). The origin of the name comes from Mongolian: Talakan. Talakan (or Taleqan) was the strategically more convenient Southern capital of Gingiz Khan from which he could dispatch his armies to India, Persia, and Europe. The latter Talakan referred to here is located in the present day Afghanistan south of Tajik border. This Taleqan (Talakan) is East of Mazar-e Sharif in Afghanistan. In Persian language, the two Talegans (also spelled as Taleghan in English texts) are identical in spelling. The Iranian Taleqan must have aquired its name after the Mongol invasion of Persia and after Afghanistan's Taleqan (Talakan) was established by Gingiz Khan.
