  • Hello, @菜國人: Good to see you here, but for your reference, enwiki uses a very different way to promote DYK compared to zhwiki - editors do not vote the article here. Instead, they will review the whole article to see if the article, the image, and the hook pass certain criteria. If you want to review Taiwan.md, follow Wikipedia:Did you know/Reviewer instructions here and use Template:DYK checklist to review the article, and leave your comment in the DYK page. I take, will review in the next 24 hours. I'm not a fan of any of the hooks for various reasons, but a combination of the first two hooks - ALT6: ... that a Taiwanese open knowledge base was built in 24 hours by AI agents? - would work.--Launchballer 03:23, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

@Saimmx: Long enough, new enough. QPQ not needed and Earwig's clean. No reason why either would deserve a maintenance template. ALT1/6 says that the site was built in 24 hours but the article says that an initial structure was built in 24 hours, and this isn't quite the same thing (or anywhere near as interesting in my view). ALT7 ... that a Taiwanese open knowledge base uses the Moldovan Internet country code top-level domain .md? is certainly unusual, but I'd like to see if you have any suggestions before I call for another reviewer.--Launchballer 18:36, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

@Launchballer: I am not good at finding good hooks, so I won't comment on the hooks you find. They may be interesting to other reviewers as well. But as a developer, the ".md" domain certainly refers to Markdown instead of Moldova if you ask me (the same way we believe the .io domain refers to input/output instead of the British Indian Ocean Territory). Others may not feel the same way, though.

If you wonder, the DYK hook on Chinese Wikipedia is: "哪個以Markdown格式建構的台灣開源知識庫由新媒體藝術家吳哲宇於2026年3月發起？" - Translation: Which Taiwanese open knowledge base is built with Markdown by Wu Che Yu, a new media artist? - Based on your view of my hooks, you may find the hook is not interesting, either. --Saimmx (talk) 19:02, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

I don't know if zh's DYK assesses interestingness, but my reaction to that hook would be 'it's going to have been built with something and by someone, and 'new' is too nebulous to be useful'. (The former is similar to why I'm not keen on ALTs 2, 4, and 5 - providing information isn't an unusual aspect of something like this. ALT3 requires knowledge of what a README is, which doesn't strike me as common knowledge.) "Refers to" isn't quite the same thing as "comes from", but I'll let someone else adjudicate on ALT7.--Launchballer 19:18, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

No opinion on the article, but ALT7 isn't exactly unheard of since it's quite common for websites to use the top-level domain for other countries (such as Tuvalu's .tv). I could live with it if there were no other options, but the others are either weak or have been challenged, so we probably need to see other options first before we revisit ALT7. The answer to "why they choose .md domain" requires readers to understand the idea of README (of software development) and Markdown. I have known these for a long time, so it is obvious to me (in short, "no" for me about your question), but it looks like it's not the case for others, based on your previous replies. I will therefore explain README.md the background for a little bit -

In software projects, README.md describes what the project is, how to use it, and how to contribute to it (i.e. write computer programs and submit them to the maintainer). It is a very important document in a software project because we need to know what the software is. In "Taiwan.md", the maintainer uses the idea of "README.md" and compares Taiwan to a software project - how do we know Taiwan? Where's the document for it? The project aimed to become a "README.md of Taiwan."

First, the term "new media artist" (新媒體藝術家) is a proper noun in the context, and should not be interpreted word-for-word.

Second, I don't know about enwp's DYK assesses the interestingness of DYK hooks as well, and noticed a difference over "interesting hooks" between enwp and zhwp - In zhwp, I rarely heard people who assess a hook's interestingness (maybe there's someone who does, but I don't know). I, for example, care more about the quality of an article than a hook's interestingness (More like "No opinion on the hooks, but the article...").

I am not sure what interested you. For me, "a website designed to introduce Taiwan to foreigners—and one that garners significant attention" is interesting enough, since the goal itself is unusual, maybe challenging enough. Perhaps media attention within eight hours of the website’s launch might interest you, but I would like to hear your thoughts before creating hooks, since I am unsure of personal preference. --Saimmx (talk) 18:01, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

I get that it's not as exciting as if the whole thing was built in 24 hours but it still makes you want to find out what was going on. Also because "AI agents" is in the subject, so it's more active. Cielquiparle (talk) 20:52, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
