The page on Trithemius says he died in 1516. This page says he invented the tabula recta in 1518. Does anyone have any ideas as to which one is in error? (Or was the book published posthumously? jdege (talk) 23:40, 24 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

First cryptology book

[edit]

The first book on cryptography and cryptanalysis was written in 800 AD, and numerous others were written in the next 700 years before Trithemius. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_cryptography#Medieval_and_Renaissance_cryptography

I hesitate at editing or marking it dubious as perhaps a different definition is being used for "cryptology" or "published?" --Skintigh (talk) 16:13, 27 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
