Edit request: Expand section on oil spills in Table Bay
[edit]I would like to request an expansion of the section on oil spills in Table Bay to address the expansion tag and provide additional notable incidents beyond the 1953 Sliedrecht spill.
Proposed addition:
Other oil spills
[edit]• Seli 1 (2012): Wreckage of the Turkish bulk carrier Seli 1, which ran aground near Bloubergstrand in 2009, leaked bunker fuel during stormy weather, contaminating Table View, Rietvlei, and Dolphin Beach areas.[1]
• Treasure (2000): The iron ore carrier Treasure sank approximately 20 km north of Robben Island, spilling about 1,300 tonnes of heavy fuel oil and affecting thousands of seabirds, including African penguins.[2]
• Astron Energy diesel spill (2023): A diesel leak from an industrial facility impacted the Rietvlei Wetland Reserve and Milnerton Lagoon, affecting local birdlife.[3]
These additions are supported by news and organizational sources and would help provide a more comprehensive overview of environmental incidents in Table Bay.
Thank you. ~~~~ Funtiberry (talk) 05:09, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
