any one out there made a swiss arrow yet ?

Cleanup

I cleaned up the article as best I could. Whether or not it's accurate, I'm not really sure. Googling for more information didn't particularly help, as all the hits are copies of this article.

I removed the article from the Archery category because Swiss arrows are not shot with a bow. (In that sense, they're not actually arrows.)

Also, I removed the seemingly redundant image Swiss3.jpg, seen below, from the article. It is now orphaned (with the exception of this page).

Are you retarded? An arrow is an arrow whether it is shot with a bow or not. Actually the Arrow was around BEFORE the Bow was invented.

hi, i live in the uk and we've been making these for years. we make them about 35 inches long. a good throw is about 200m and hte longest iv seen is 226m (measured accurately). the trick to getting them this far is to make the flight vanes on the arrow as low as possible (unlike the arrow pictured) and realy WHIPPING the arm on the follow through to the throw. awsome fun. if you use a carbon arrowshaft adn fit broadheads they are pretty awsome

Eagle Annual #7 or #8, British, late 1950s, has pictorial instructions on making one, but I don't recall if it was called a "Swiss Arrow" or something else. This article doesn't seem to be going anywhere; is it actually needed?

This article is two decades old, still isn't particularly informative, and it's been stale for a long time too.

The article's title is also a mystery to me, as the only source in the whole article (and is inserted right after "Swiss arrow") calls it "Yorkshire arrow". The three other names given also aren't apparent to me.

So should we just put this article to rest? I mean I could see it bring merged into amentum, but honestly that article isn't really that helpful either. There seems to be a couple of these, so maybe they all should be merged into one? But I won't be doing that as there's other articles I'm more interested in.

I'll check back here in some time and if it isn't looking better I'll consider getting it deleted.

The obvious difference to an amentum is the fletchings, string not leather, and the size of the arrow. I'm not quite sure why you expect an article about a centuries old weapon to evolve. Greglocock (talk) 22:44, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

This article doesn't even mention age. Is it actually centuries old? Because if you can source that it would be a great addition to this article.

Generally, if you have an interest in this topic of can provide sources for it then please go ahead. It's very much needed here.

But why I'm expecting the article to evolve is quite straightforward: This article contains no properly cited information. So it's not really an article. It's just a bunch of sentences strung together.

To be less ambiguous I would expect an entry about something like this to be somewhat like the article on bolas.

So in simple terms

1. Sourced Name (why is it called Swiss arrow? Is it Swiss?)

   Alt names with source would be great too.

2. What it is (already present but needs source)
3. What it's for (is this for hunting? fighting? Sports? Games?)
4. Origin (is this a 21st century toy or from the Neolithic?)

   If it's old then by whom and for what has it been used through its history?

5. Single sentence about similar things
6. Info Box or image (modern image or not; either would help a lot)
7. Section with details about 4.1
8. Sourced section about design.
9. How one throws it (also sourced; but the section really shouldn't be called Use as that's usually used for the object's history of use (I'll change that in a sec, actually)
10. optionally how it differs from other similar things

So if it's not on track towards that then I would consider the article very much in need of evolving some more.
