Swinton's role.

It is simply not true that Swinton was "the inventor of the first tracked vehicle or tank." The source is a Twitter page from someone who appears to be connected with the Ministry of Defence and should know better. Swinton was put in charge of recruitment and training in England of what was then the Tank Detachment; once they were in France, the tanks came under local control. Swinton was only in this job for about 8 months before being sacked and replaced by Hugh Elles. Colonel Commandant is an honorary title, not a rank. Hengistmate (talk) 14:25, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

BTW, the https://www.firstworldwar.com/bio/swinton.htm article fails, as do many accounts, to note that Swinton unsuccessfully hawked around his vague idea for an adapted Holt tractor, while Churchill's Landship Commitee constructed the two prototype tanks, entirely without Swinton's knowledge. And he saw a Holt tractor in June 1915, not Christmas 1914. In June 1914 he was sent a report about a demonstration of a Holt tractor in Belgium, which he forwarded to various transport departments.
