This article is misleading. "Swayze" is actually an English surname, it was originally spelt "Swasey".

Actually it probably originally was the Flemish/Dutch name Swijse. J is pronounced as y and the final e is also pronounced.A family by the Swasey name was recorded as a denizen (non-citizen foreigner) in Weymouth in 1527 near Bridport where John Swasey originated. The French version of the same Flemish name was Suisse, which is why the confusion with Switzerland. The name Suisse is most common in Belgium, French Flanders and neighboring areas nowhere near Switzerland.
