Google seems to show many more hits for Svisloch+Belarus than Svislach+Belarus and many more than Śvisłač+Belarus (roughly 900 to 400 to 40). Also .gov.by uses Svisloch. Also, our List of cities in Belarus article uses the other transliteration scheme, and some other city articles are titled with it.
We should use a consistent transliteration scheme, and although there are probably political implications to any transliteration scheme, it should probably be one that's more commonly in actual use in English. -- Curps 14:52, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
- This change is only one step on the way to consistence and global change. As I said before, there is general approval that local geographical names are written in local languages (while it is latin derivative). That's why we shouldn't use google or smth to know that Russian-style transliteration is more popular (it is known, it's just because Russian is more popular), we just should use Belarusian name (fortunately Belarusian has latin version). --Monkbel 15:26, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
Polish wiki says that Svislach has the only remaining statue of Stalin in Belorus. Is it true, or outdated or just wrong?radek (talk) 00:04, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
