Who was it?

[edit]

The article says "They [the Germans] were chased away in October by a visit from what the Germans mistook to be four British warships". Who visited, if not British warships? Mcswell (talk) 01:53, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Map of the arctic in the article

[edit]

When I zoom in on the multicolour vector map in the article it looks as Longyearbyen is situated on the north shore of Advent Bay. I thought it is situated on the south shore - is the map in the article correct? ChristinaCC (talk) 18:54, 23 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Population of Svalbard

[edit]

Was looking at the source for the population (needed the data for my thesis) and it seems the population listed here is only the population of the Norwegian settlements, and using the most recent data from the same source the actual value should be around 2,881 when you add in the Russian settlements. Is there a reason these settlements were excluded? Evallen37 (talk) 12:15, 11 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

good evening. hope my words would find you well. Since you are the watcher of the article Population -- would be great to see that Ukrainians are counted toghether with russians in one group I believe, that would be right and fair to recontructure the sentence somehow. Thank you for your attention and time ~2026-18711-49 (talk) 17:15, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
The reason for Ukranians and Russians being counted as a single group is that, at the time those statistics were collected, many of the workers in the Russian-operated coal mine at Barentsburg were Ukranian. But yes, the section could definitely use some improvement; feel free to make WP:BOLD edits with appropriate sourcing. Rosbif73 (talk) 07:44, 26 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
