Reverted edits re:Anthropic

@It is true people: I have reverted your edits discussing issues with Anthropic's policies on this page. Neither of the two sources you've provided discuss Surge AI or Data Annotation, and the commentary you've added about "data annotators" being "somewhere in the chain of responsibility" are synthesis and non-neutral. Please don't re-add those edits before discussion, preferably by providing a source actually making the criticism so that it doesn't appear to be your own personal gripe. What if I don't have a source, but the criticism is true? Because the idea is simple: Data Annotation -> Surge -> Anthropic -> Maven. People need to be somehow informed before getting involved in this. What's your idea? It is true people (talk) 18:15, 14 July 2026 (UTC)

If you don't have a source, it can't go in the article. Our verifiability policy says that "Even if you are sure something is true, it must have been published in a reliable source before you can add it." The essay "verifiability, not truth," goes into a lot more depth on the reasoning behind this, but the TL;DR is that citing every claim to a published source makes it easier to keep articles balanced and consistently truthful. The threshold can't be "I believe this criticism is true," because otherwise every article would get overrun with everybody's gripes or concerns rather than being generally balanced.

If you can't find reliably sourced criticisms about the specific company in this article, but there are criticisms of the ethics of the practice of data annotation more broadly, then editing an article like reinforcement learning from human feedback might be more appropriate. Oh also allow me not to forget. Surge's previous website interface used to list the military among its customers. It's available on web archive. Those could potentially go in the article, but I would encourage you to read the independent sources essay in full, since we try to use third-party sources whenever possible.

Thank you. As I truly couldn't find any source listing military as a Surge customer, or listing their workforce, I referenced their own website. I will add the criticism you gave later. I'm also planning on making a separate article for Data Annotation in case you're interested. It is true people (talk) 13:53, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
