Terms
[edit]The article states that supply teacher is more common in Britain in Ireland. Perhaps this should require a reference as I, as a student in the Irish education system for more than 13 years, have never come across the term. Substitute and sub are used with no exceptions at the schools I attended.--86.46.133.36 (talk) 15:30, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Long Term Pay
[edit]I made a couple minor changes to the "Pay" section. First off, I removed the statement that districts will swap out substitutes to avoid paying the extra rate for long term. Districts recognize the importance of stability and will retain a single substitute if they can. Sometimes substitutes are swapped out because the substitute credential only allows a set number of days in a given position. But that's a legal reason, not a financial. Additionally, I changed "30 days" to "a set number of days" for the duration when a long-term pay kicks in. The two local districts here (and I can cite the substitute handbooks if needed) pay the higher rates after 10 days for one and 20 days for another. four tildes — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.228.6.192 (talk) 22:41, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
Mysterious text
[edit]The first sentence in the Pay and benefits section contains the following - "(although $3.08 per hour would be below minimum wage in any state)". That text seems unrelated to anything that precedes it in the sentence. I'm not American. Just trying to understand. Does it make sense to anyone? HiLo48 (talk) 01:00, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- An editor's own calculation, presumably based on an assumpion of a 6 1/2 hr working day at the lowest pay rate mentioned. WP:SYNTH I would suggest. Whole article, and esp the pay section, very US slanted, and the pay section lacks sources and dating, but includes what looks like somebody's annoyance at a situation they are in rather than sourced encyclopaedic material.
