The notability of this article might be improved by mentioning the important role that sub-caliber training had in battleship combat. (Training with full-caliber shells was exceedingly expensive due to the cost of shells and barrel wear.) For example, the extensive sub-caliber training done by the Japanese fleet previous to battle is given as one reason for the overwhelming victory of the Japanese over the Russians in the Battle of Tsushima.
