I think the student shouls be aware of how the important accommodation is.because it brings many advantages and disadvantages for student'life.If you have a good accommodation,your study have more easily.The meaning refers to the fact that having a good study enviroment will be useful to study better as student can concentrate doing homework at home or having a reasonable space study or discuss with many another student in a group.On other hand if student accommodation is not good,as the result,it will have bad their student influentially.and a long course which make you face to face with many difficulties. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.187.0.240 (talk) 11:52, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Ok, this page confuses me from the start. Student accommodation isn't primarily a term used in debates, it is a place where students live! Also it is a very wide reaching term from halls of residence to privately rented property in student areas. This needs some work on it. Cls14 (talk) 11:27, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Oppose. The use of "dormitory" to refer to student accommodation is confined to the US, so fails WP:COMMONALITY. It is also not the primary meaning of dormitory even within the US, per Merriam-Webster, which is "a room for sleeping especially: a large room containing numerous beds". Per WP:CONTENTSPLIT, it is better that student accommodation should be a separate page rather than being merged as a secondary topic into a page with a title that does not primarily refer to student accommodation in the US and does not refer to student accommodation at all in the rest of the world. Thanks, I've been working on the country list entries and either found sources or removed entries that couldn't be verified. I'm a bit sorry to lose the China section as it leaves the article rather tilted towards Europe and North America, but it had been tagged for a while and nobody had provided any references.

There's a number of dictionary citations, but that's necessary when different words are used for the same concept in different English variants.

For the reasons I gave above, I don't think dormitory would be a suitable article to merge this into. Robminchin (talk) 06:22, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

Oppose. Agree with Robminchin about non-use of "dormitory" outside the US. UK media descriptions of student accommodation buildings (examples: , , ) do not use the term (it is more commonly used, in a UK context, to refer to sleeping accommodation of the kind often found in boarding schools and other institutions).
