Kiefer

[edit]

The last sentence in the first paragraph is incorrect and should be deleted. Kiefer did NOT prove strong subadditivity of quantum entropy in 1959. The remark about Kiefer's work in Ruskai's youtube video from the 90th birthday celebration of Freeman Dyson refers to a different inequality in the paper “Some Operator Inequalities of the Schwarz Type” Adv. Math. 12, 269–273 (1974) by Lieb and Ruskai. (I can upload the slides from that talk if anyone is interested.)

See also the discussion in the second paragraph of Section 5 of the paper “A Unified Treatment of Convexity of Relative Entropy and Related Trace Functions, with Conditions for Equality” Rev. Math. Phys. 22, 1099-1021 (2010) by A. Jencova and M.B. Ruskai
