Qin state
[edit]The Qin state (but probably not empire) was a stratocracy, but it would probably be a long time before I could put together enough about this.FourLights (talk)

Stratocracy → Militar state – More results in the Google Scholar and more simple. Vorconaro (talk) 17:37, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. Military state (if that's what you meant) redirects to Imperialism. It's not necessarily the same thing as a stratocracy. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:22, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose I see no real explanation here. "More results in Google Scholar" is not a valid justification for moving an article that is discussing a specific type of government using a technical term. Democracy also has more results in Google Scholar than stratocracy, does that mean the article should be merged with democracy? Obviously not. Also, the proposer didn't even bother to correct their misspelled word ("Militar" instead of "Military"). This is not a serious proposal and should be WP:SNOW closed. JasonMacker (talk) 00:30, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- I Jadensimplified say no I don't recommend this, I say that Military State should redirect to here. Jadensimplified (talk) 22:00, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose a Stratocracy is definitely different from a military state (or even a military dictatorship) given that a parallel or flat out military administrative apparatus has to exist amongst other conditions. Sunnyediting99 (talk) 23:47, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
- typo Jadensimplified (talk) 00:05, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
- i think that we should conclude that there should be a redirect from militar state to this page Jadensimplified (talk) 19:40, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Split Suggestion
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
It's just too long, that we need to split into a list into separate articles. according to WP:SPLIT it states "If an article becomes too large, or a section of an article has a length that is out of proportion to the rest of the article, it may be appropriate for some or all of the article to be split into new articles." Jadensimplified (talk) 19:53, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
- I agree bc all of Notable examples of stratocracies, States argued to be stratocratic, and Stratocracy#Fictional stratocracies basically have more text then the rest of the sections. J😢 JadenGotLost 02:03, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
- Considering the article in total is less than 3,000 words, it is well below any need to be split. -- Cdjp1 (talk) 09:49, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with Cdjp1 I dont think there needs to be a spilt, also, is Jadensimplified and JadenGotLost the same person? Sunnyediting99 (talk) 23:52, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
- no, we both have different middle and last names Jadensimplified (talk) 00:07, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- and the fact that 2708 words about the list of the nations that are stratocracy meanwhile the rest is 257 needs to have a split. Jadensimplified (talk) 00:08, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- With all due respect I really think its the same person using two accounts, both start with Jaden and this talk page (With the shutdown of JadenGostLost) suggests its both the same person. Please do not use multiple accounts to sockpuppet/push a point in discussions. Sunnyediting99 (talk) 21:48, 28 March 2026 (UTC)

- I suspected it and it was proven, Jadensimplifed was not only JadenGotLost but had various other accounts. I recommend closing this discussion to begin with given this was a deliberately skewed attempt to manipulate discussion results. Sunnyediting99 (talk) 01:29, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Algiers
[edit]@Cdjp1 How is the regency of Algiers not stratocratic ? Nourerrahmane (talk) 11:39, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
- None of the sources that were used in the section called it stratocratic. -- Cdjp1 (talk) 13:24, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
- Added another source that explicitly mentions the word "statocracy". Although everything about the political history of the regency is stratocratic. Nourerrahmane (talk) 13:45, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
Although everything about the political history of the regency is stratocratic.
is WP:OR. We need sources to make the assessment.- Thank for adding "Maroc-Algerie". As I am unable to access the book via Google Books, are you able to provide each of the sentences where your search term "Stratocratie Alger" occurs, and their page numbers? As we may be able to use the citation at multiple points in the section, which helps to reinforce its inclusion. -- Cdjp1 (talk) 14:32, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
- (pp17):
- The Origins of the Algerian Stratocracy: A Triple Heritage
- To situate the origins of the stratocratic system in Algeria, the historian would hesitate between at least three major legacies to which the political destiny of Algeria has been historically linked. One would first think of the Turkish Janissaries (the elite infantry) who, since 1516, had distinguished themselves by forming an army corps skilled in predatory activities in the western Mediterranean as well as in the pacification of rebellious tribes. A relatively long period in Algerian history, from 1516 to 1830, saw the emergence and subsequent entrenchment within the social fabric of a compact stratocratic structure largely modeled on the Ottoman Janissary system. The stratocrats (beylerbeys, aghas, pashas, deys, etc.), who ruled the various regions of the country with an iron fist, owed their positions to co-optation by their peers, and this is precisely why they were always at the mercy of the army, which installed and deposed them at will. As proof, in 1732, six deys were appointed and assassinated in Algiers on the same day. Today, the Janissaries have descendants in Algeria where, through marriage with indigenous women, they gave rise to the Kouloughli community (from the Turkish kul oghlu, meaning son of a soldier), which now numbers around 35,000 Algerians of Ottoman descent, particularly in the Tlemcen region.
- Per Stratocracy definition, I advice reading the administration section of the regency of Algiers article. Nourerrahmane (talk) 15:29, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Per Stratocracy definition
, if I were to ignore the WP:OR of the statement, I would have to ask per who's definition? As there is not a singular agreed upon definition among the researchers who have published papers on stratocracy.
Verification issues with examples
[edit]@Cdjp1: I just removed a paragraph on Myanmar which falsely attributed to a source that "The closest modern equivalent to a stratocracy" was Myanmar. Not one source in that paragraph contained the word stratocracy or stratocratic, yet it is supposedly the top example of the phenomenon? What is going on on this page? TEMPO156 (talk) 23:18, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Just removed another paragraph relying entirely on false attribution to a source that a current UK overseas territory is a stratocracy. This looks like a major cleanup task, we're going to have to go through and check everything for appropriate attribution to sources. I've tagged the page and delisted as a B class article.
