Example and Fashion

This article could really use a real-world example of stranded assets not related to the environment. Would assets that are written down because of changes in taste/fashion also be considered "stranded assets" ? I'm thinking of the Hudson's Bay Company's investment in beaver furs, when beaver felt top hats went out of fashion fairly suddenly... Vertical integration and contract-specific investments

One of the main motivations for vertical integration is to reduce transaction costs. One of these transaction costs is the difficulty in arranging contracts such that a supplier investing in equipment to manufacture a product exclusively for a consuming business doesn't bear risk of the consuming business discontinuing their planned purchases. Without a contract, the supplier bears significant risk from their investment in the equipment. I'm not sure if this equipment is properly classified as a stranded asset since it isn't really about broader economic and regulatory conditions so much as the particular decisions of a single consumer, but it is surely closely related, and seems like it should be mentioned here.
