Content assessment

[edit]

This tropical cyclone article has no content assessment. I looks like a start-class article to me, but I am not going to be the one to assess this page. CycloneTheta (talk) 08:53, 20 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Now with today’s edits I can see C-class given to this article with low to possibly mid importance. ViridLeWiki (talk) 21:10, 20 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Track map needed

[edit]

Does anyone know where ATCF data on this system may be present? I'd like to make an official track image for this storm and include it in the 2026 tropical cyclone map. OreoStar-fait (talk) 16:39, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@OreoStar-fait We don't have any data as of now, either CIMSS or zivipotty.hu will release the data I think. (like this) HurricaneZetaC 16:43, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alrighty, let me know when any data comes out. :) OreoStar-fait (talk) 16:46, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm making a track map for samuel. Dragonzgikil (talk) 01:51, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Do you have a source for the analysis? OreoStar-fait (talk) 01:58, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Why is Samuel unknown-strength?

[edit]

Wasn't this a Subtropical Storm? ~2026-16708-30 (talk) 03:11, 13 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

There’s no sources directly stating that it was a subtropical storm (so far from what i’ve tried to search for, nobody has made an in-depth paper about the synopsis of Storm Samuel which is a bit unfortunate), the available sources that were published on the storm like from CIMSS or ESA simply state it as a Medicane, we can’t put it as a subtropical storm based on what we can assume because of WP:SYNTH. ViridLeWiki (talk) 12:27, 13 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
It was stated a mix of tropical and extratropical, which IS subtropical ~2026-16708-30 (talk) 22:29, 13 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
It’s never specifically stated that this would mean that Samuel was subtropical. You can have an Extratropical Cyclone with tropical characteristics or a tropical cyclone with extratropical characteristics which would still be different from a subtropical cyclone (an extratropical cyclone with tropical characteristics still has fronts, something subtropical cyclones don’t have). Again, only implying that it would be subtropical based on that mixed conclusion would again fall under WP:SYNTH. ViridLeWiki (talk) 22:32, 13 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh ok ~2026-16708-30 (talk) 23:20, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is why it's track map uses unknown classification. Dragonzgikil (talk) 16:46, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Do you have a source for the Best Track used? ViridLeWiki (talk) 20:11, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Change article name?

[edit]

Now that the reanalysis has come out, should we move this article to "Subtropical Storm Samuel"? OreoStar-fait (talk) 21:33, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

For consistency reasons I think it should be kept as "Storm Samuel", Storm Blas which is one of the only other modern-era subtropical storms in the Mediterranean is called Storm Blas instead of Subtropical Storm Blas, and also because it was named as a European windstorm I think keeping it as Storm Samuel fits well, it was never operationally considered a subtropical storm by any other European weather agency.
