Neutral sources

Storm-Z units are not "penal units" at least not all of them. They are designed as assault light infantry. True part of them has been reduced to the role of penal companies but it heavily depends on regiment commander. Good Ukrainian source, but based on Russian sources:

Various sources all confirm that Storm Z is basically for penal units, its a mixture of convicts as well as Russian soldiers being punished for using drugs and alcohol too much. Sunnyediting99 (talk) 20:57, 15 December 2023 (UTC)

Change the sentence suggesting storm z units are so inadequately supplied they lack shoes. The Yahoo News article shows a picture of men clearly behind their lines in a mustering area, not engaged in combat operations and as such reveals little about the quality of supplies of these units. I removed the dubious source, replaced with following text supported by two new RS: Storm-Z fighters have said that their units suffer from incompetent leadership, lack of supplies, and faulty equipment. Three Storm-Z POWs told CNN of routinely malfunctioning artillery, inaccurate rocket barrages, and commanders under the influence of painkillers giving "nonsensical orders". They also said that obtaining food and water required hiking 5 km (3 mi) through a minefield.

Date of Formation

The first sentence in the description does not refer to the year of discovery of these units

"The existence of the Storm-Z units was first uncovered on April 6, when Ukrainian forces captured documents detailing their penal recruitment and formations."

I am guessing it is 2023 but this should be updated by someone with editorial permissions for this article. Franzcosmo (talk) 10:22, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Reports of “Storm-V” units

What’s the difference, if any? Has anyone found more sources? All I can find are oblique references. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 05:31, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Putin disbanded Storm Z and replaced it with Storm V, despite the name change they largely function the same, and the only real difference is the promises the convicts get for their services, where with Storm Z they where promised a salary and a pardon, Storm V units are only promised a salary. Putin Quotation

From what I can see neither of the sources linked have Putin referring to these units as "meat". Do we have a source which actually has Putin saying this and if so can we add it? The only sources I can find calling them "meat" seems to be based on a quotation from an unnamed regular soldier, not Putin. Rule0042 (talk) 12:48, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
