From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stewartry was formerly (1975-96) a local government district in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland. It took its (rather illogical) name from The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright

It might be useful to eplain why the name is illogical, always assuming this commment does in fact cast an encyclopaedic light on the subject? Flapdragon 14:22, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It would be good even to explain the origin of the term "stewartry".

Please note, also, that Wigtownshire too is referred to as the "Stewartry of Wigtownshire", hence someone visiting this page - as I did - might wish to be given information about either of the two stewartries. Mark M 15:18, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
