It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim. As of 7/16/2009, the surfacestations.org project has surveyed 1003 of the 1221 US stations, and the data has been further checked for accuracy. Over 90% of the stations are not in compliance in at least one area, while over 60% are badly out of spec. The worst sites are around 8%. Modern Equivalent

Even large installations and important stations have been switching from hand acquired data to automatic weather stations. I couldn't find anything in wikipedia about the nomenclature of their components, but I found this Plate Gill Radiation Shield which to me seems to be the modern equivalent of the old stevenson screen. Since I don't know if this is indeed the correct name I'll leave it to the experts to incorporate something along those lines into the article. --BjKa (talk) 11:27, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
