Purpose?

[edit]

This article unfortunately failed to answer the only question I have about stemware - why? Why do you stick the drink containing part on a long stalk attached to a base? What advantages does stemware have over normal glasses, where the bottom of the liquid container is also the base of the glass? What is the purpose of stemware's design? I added material from the article on "Champagne Glass" which explains it. The stem keeps you from holding the glass by the bowl, thus preventing the heat of your hand from warming the booze. 184.53.32.125 (talk) 03:54, 25 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
