Regarding foveated rendering/streaming

@ViperSnake151 As far as I understand, there's a subtle but important difference. Foveated rendering reduces the workload of the GPU by rendering the part of the image that is in your peripheral vision at a lower resolution. Foveated streaming, on the other hand, reduces the bandwidth of the streamed data by compressing the fully rendered image. While foveated rendering in the end also reduces the bandwidth of the streamed data, it requires support from the game developer, whereas foveated streaming can be applied to every game. In addition foveated streaming also doesn't reduce the GPU workload/requirements of the rendering PC. I think this distinction is significant enough to mention "foveated streaming" in addition to "foveated rendering". Itdoesntmatteranymore (talk) 10:30, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

It's worth noting that foveated streaming *does* reduce load on the GPU's video encoder, which allows you to get better fidelity with lower bitrates as well as avoiding topping out encoder performance on lower end GPUs. They should be mentioned separately as they have completely different technical implementations, despite similar end user goals. Foveated streaming produces 2 videos per vision field (eye), one low resolution, low bitrate (high compression) feed covering the whole FOV, and one high resolution, high bitrate, low compression feed that only includes the area where the eye is looking (fovea, where the visual acuity is highest). It's supposed to work well with the design of the human eye that concentrates most of the resolution on the fovea, and the pheipherty is resolved in much less detail. It might be worth including this GIF on the page as it's fairly novel technology, and the GIF has been widely circulated but I'm not sure of its licensing. ~2025-33452-11 (talk) 03:29, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

There is no point in the article that says the frame would be released in 2025. There's announcements in 2025, but all release dates are in 2026. Masem (t) 02:54, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
