Defence

I think that the defending rather than state violence against civilians, should limit it to violence in the furtherence of politcal ends, preferably violence designed to create social climate to support those ends. Possibly the violence isn't even the key part of terrorism. See wikt:terrorism. Rich Farmbrough, 12:39 23 November 2006 (GMT). (Note:"state terrorism" -wikipedia only gets 677,000 hits unlike the search above.)

Palestine

for some reason, Palestine is mentioned as a state in many pages, but here there is no mention of them ever using terrorism against Israel, despite many cases. These include suicide bombers in busses, rockets targeting and killing civilians, and the October 7th 2023 attack that killed over 797 civilians and kidnapped 251 people 147.235.202.234 (talk) 23:19, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

Please find a reliable source evidencing that the Palestinian National Authority was behind the attack that was carried out by Hamas. See Government of Palestine for more info, or you may want to take the discussion to the WikiProject.

You would need a source that made this analysis and said that was the agreed among terrorism experts. No one recognizes Gaza as a state, even Hamas.

Palestinian terrorism has normally been grouped under ethnic/nationalist terrorism, similar to terrorism carried out by insurgents in occupied territories. Some terrorism in the Middle East, such as al Qaeda attacks, have been categorized as religious terrorism. TFD (talk) 01:55, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

PS: A reliable source calling the event "state terrorism" carried out by a state that the source calls Palestine, might also be sufficient. It should be noted that groups who attack a country's military are referred to as terrorists even when no civilians are involved. All political violence should be considered on the same scale whether it is done by state or non-state actors. To make state actors "better" by not using the pejorative term of terrorist throws the equation out of balance by keeping a finger on the scale. State actors have a dual identity as an employee and citizen. Law enforcement officers who are members of the Ku Klux Klan should not get a pass for violent behavior for political ends. The use of language to make it us versus them should not be the academic standard. Profcraig (talk) 18:40, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

Please construct a chart or similar document for this article

It would be very helpful to have much of the information related to this topic organized in the form of a chart, in the same way that the data is organized in the following articles: List of wars by death toll; List of famines; List of epidemics and pandemics; List of natural disasters by death toll; List of genocides. For example, it would be useful to view the comparative numbers of deaths, victims, etc. from the "dirty wars" prosecuted by various state regimes against its citizens. Which countries' citizens suffered more death among the Latin American military dictatorships of the 20th Century? One could view high and low estimates (the range) via a chart, the same way viewers can in the other articles I had mentioned in the first sentence above.
