Local Government Federal Credit Union

[edit]

Does anyone have a source that says when LGFCU first started serving customers? Appears it was in the mid 1980s. Court records readily available on the Web describe in excruciating detail how SECU tried to expand to cover local government employees. SECU did receive permission from state regulators to do that, but that permission was quickly challenged by some conventional banks. The dispute reached its peak on April 7, 1981 with the North Carolina Supreme Court ruling against SECU. (Savings and Loan League vs Credit Union Commission) Unfortuately, that is where the records I found end. They do not say how it was decided that creating LGFCU was an acceptable solution, nor how long it took to get LGFCU up and running. Condensinguponitself (talk) 02:15, 26 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
