According to the World Checklist of Monocotyledons (Kew Gardens), the species Stanhopea nigroviolacea (C.Morren) Beer, Prakt. Stud. Orchid.: 313 (1854) is an accepted name, while Stanhopea tigrina var. nigroviolacea C.Morren, Ann. Soc. Roy. Agric. Gand 1: 233 (1845) is a synonym. Therefore, I've reverted to the previous version.
