– Seems like there's clearly no primary topic for this term, and a reader searching this term and arriving at an article about a programming language seems to be a clear WP:SURPRISE. Steel1943 (talk) 12:56, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- Support Turns out everyone is looking for the mouse. Thanks! —1isall (talk | contribs) 14:41, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom, seems like an obvious move.--Ortizesp (talk) 18:34, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- Support the programming language has 1,181 views, the television series has 496 and the animal has 23,957[]. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:46, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- That's apples and oranges, because we don't know if that actually has anything to do with the ratio of people associating "squeak" with these topics, because most of mouse traffic probably comes from that term, not squeak. We don't know if it's 14 : 1 like those numbers imply.
- I previously argued that even if a small amount of readership of a big topic is a relevant subtopic, it's probably proof of no primary topic, at Talk:OKD, but there the ratio was around 50 : 1, and few seemed to care.
- We need to establish some sort of a standard to judge these sorts of statistics. --Joy (talk) 14:56, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose I don't think this is as obvious as it's made out to be. Sending "squeak" to the mouse article is misleading for an encyclopedia, as many animals can make squeak noises, not just mice. The programming language remains the only real primary topic, Wiktionary can handle the onomatopoeia association. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 04:53, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- The proposal isn't to redirect Squeak to Mouse, but to move Squeak (disambiguation) to Squeak. Jruderman (talk) 09:22, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- I know. But even that implies there is a competing primary topic when there isn't one. If the competing primary topic is mouse, that's wrong. Squeak! falls under WP:SMALLDETAILS. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 12:47, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Small details doesn't apply here, the navigation tool shows people clicking on Squeak are going to the mouse, not to this language. There's no PRIMARYTOPIC, and if there isn't one it wouldn't be the current one.--Ortizesp (talk) 13:31, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- "Mouse" should not even be on the disambiguation page, which is not a search index. Whether they click on the incorrect mouse link from the DAB page is irrelevant.
- I don't see how SMALLDETAILS doesn't apply, Airplane! does not send people to the type of flying machine. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 14:34, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Airplane! is different from Airplane logically. Airplane doesn't redirect to the film. In some cases like this one the dab or even wiktionary link should be primary.--Ortizesp (talk) 18:20, 6 August 2026 (UTC)

- Support per nom. Frankly, we should have an article covering in some sense the concept of a squeak as a noise, perhaps in combination with similar noise concepts like Creak, Hiss, Squawk, and Squeal (currently also all disambiguation pages). BD2412 T 02:59, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- @1isall, Ortizesp, and Crouch, Swale: after a little bit of research, I have started Draft:Friction-induced noises, which appears to be the right rubric for capturing this group of sounds and providing context for an article on the range of sounds themselves. BD2412 T 03:36, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- That's a great idea. Thanks! —1isall (talk | contribs) 03:57, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- Intriguing, but the main source appears to be noises arising from car malfunctions, so I am not sure if a standalone article would be proper. Wikipedia is not a dictionary, after all, and the primary topic of seemingly "obvious" words can be quite different from what people assume.
- You creating that article draft did reminds me that we have List of animal sounds, so I changed the link on the DAB page to target that list instead of just mouse, but I am still unconvinced that it is an equal primary topic, personally. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 08:13, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- I will say, it's still a very rough draft. I expect to turn up sources for a wider array of perspectives. BD2412 T 18:35, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- Having a WP:BCA like that definitely sounds like a good idea. --Joy (talk) 18:08, 8 August 2026 (UTC)

- Support, just assuming "mouse". Randy Kryn (talk) 13:38, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
